Hello! Henry is sleeping and it is raining outside, so it is the perfect time to make a cup of green tea and write a long overdue blog post.
Since the last time I blogged, a few things have happened. First, Tyler and I went to Canyon Ranch in Lenox, MA. We left Henry with family in Boston, and headed to Canyon Ranch for two days of much needed R&R. We took a 2 hour nap once we were able to get into our room, and then I slept 12 hours that night. We definitely needed the rest! If you have never been to Canyon Ranch, it is a wellness resort where you can go to all types of classes from yoga to tabata to lectures on various health and wellness topics. They also have a state-of-the-art spa where we got our first couples massage. It was amazing. After 2 days away from Henry, we were ready to get back and love on him. We know we need to do things like this more often. It was good for all of us although we were pretty tired when we got home. It is exhausting flying with an (almost) ONE-year-old. Yes, our sweet boy is going to be ONE in a week. We can’t believe it. It seems like yesterday that we were getting ready to come home from the hospital.
On to my gut…I have had issues with my gut for some time now. To be honest, I have been dealing with it for almost 8 years which is ironic given that I am a health coach. I am supposed to feel amazing, right? Wrong. I am doing everything “right”, and my gut is still not happy.
Specifically, I have been dealing with nausea, loose stools, and diarrhea. The diarrhea has been happening on and off for the last year. Given what I do, I know that this is not normal and not a way to live. I know that poor gut health can lead to a whole host of issues down the road. I actually had a stool test done a few years ago with my conventional doctor, and everything came back “normal” even though my symptoms were not normal. Thankfully, I am working with some amazing providers at CentreSpringMD. My symptoms came to a head about a month ago, so we decided to do a GI Effects test which is an integrative stool test. Turns out, I have almost no good bacteria in my gut. Go figure! I have a lot of the bad guys, but we need a good diversity of both. Luckily, I do not have any infections or inflammation (thank goodness).
The good news is that we can repopulate the good bacteria. I am on an antibiotic, very strong probiotic, a prebiotic, and glutamine to heal the lining of the gut. It will take a while to heal my gut, but I am willing to do whatever it takes to heal it naturally.
If you are having issues with your gut and do not know what is going on, I highly recommend getting a GI Effects test done. I don’t know about you, but I rather have answers to my issues instead of guesses. There is no reason to suffer.
